Tale Valley Trust Sponsors Church 'Treebog'_
November 06, 2010
Escot Church approached the Trust for a grant to enable a compost toilet to be constructed in a spinney adjoining the churchyard. The absence of a toilet at the church had previously prevented several fund raising events from taking place & even deterred some family ceremonies. Having no running water, drainage system or external electrics meant a conventional toilet was hitherto beyond the realms of reality, especially as planning permission would have to be part of the equation.
A Treebog on the other hand needs no water, electricity or planning permission, relying entirely on composting principles
& with no permanent footings other than 9 wooden posts in the ground. The project became a reality & was built over 3 days. The Bishop of Crediton, Bishop Bob, was so impressed; he personally came to officially ‘christen’ it.
Subsequently the church has had further help from the Tale Valley Trust, with a grant towards essential re-roofing works.
